Art in FLUX Harlem presents
A Percussion Workshop by Mark Manczuk
Experience the rhythm and groove of the Samba!
Saturday November 17th, 2012
Location: 1961 Adam Clayton Powell Blvd (at 118 st.)
Event hours: 1pm - 3pm
A percussion workshop by Mark Manczuk focusing on the Samba from Brazil. Mark will show you how the multiple rhythms have been adapted to the contemporary drum-set, and how these rhythms have been and still are played during Rio de Janeiro's Carnival! Workshop participants will experience each rhythmic part and what his or her role means to the overall groove!
On Mark's most recent trips to Africa and India, he noticed that learning happened through social experiences. Many westerners hear the words "drums" and think about the contemporary drum-set for one person. In this workshop Mark will show the link between playing Samba variations from Brazil on the drum-set, and then having the class play assigned parts on different percussion instruments in order to create one groove!
This workshop is ideal for children ages 8 through adult. $15 per person or come as a family team of two for $20 (teams will share instruments)
RSVP required: firstname.lastname@example.org or 646-340-3479. Provide your name, phone number and number of people attending. We will return you call and charge a credit card to reserve your space.
