James Rauchman's work has been concerned with the magical affect of creating form in space, in the two dimensions we imagine to be three, whether representationally or abstractly. He uses this technique to investigate his relationship with the world, and his relationship with himself -- recently through a series of self portraits. James received an MFA from Columbia in Painting in 1987, and has been showing his work since 1979 in Philadelphia, New Jersey and New York. His paintings are in a numerous private collections, as well as public collections such as The Federal Reserve Bank of NY, Barnard College, The Educational Testing Service, and Squibb Pharmaceuticals in Princeton, New Jersey. James live in Morningside Heights University with his partner of 28 years. They got married in 2013, after DOMA was overturned by the Supreme Court.
